Sport is a discipline, in which Bydgoszcz is one of the leaders. Modern infrastructure, world standard events, and successes of competitors - that's how sport in Bydgoszcz can be characterised.

Sportspeople

The pride of fans from the region is the sportspeople of Bydgoszcz, who won almost 10% of all medals during the summer Olympic Games for Poland! Gold, silver and bronze medals - 25 in total - won by rowers, boxers, athletes, kayakists, cyclists, weight-lifters, and football players. Medals at World and European Championships were also won by gymnasts, shooters, volleyball players and speedway racers. One can familiarise oneself with the detailed history of these successes at the Bydgoszcz Sport Gallery. Right after the opening in 2009, the museum had 774 cups and 40,000 photographs - this was the biggest sports collection in Poland!

Infrastructure

To practise the highest world standard sport, excellent infrastructure facilities are necessary. The sports and entertainment hall "Łuczniczka" in Bydgoszcz is one of the most modern facilities of this type in Europe. The stands of the hall constructed in 2002 feature over 8,000 seats for fans!

Another facility Bydgoszcz residents are proud of is the "Zawisza" Stadium. After thorough modernisation in 2008, the athletic and football stadium can seat 20,500 spectators, including almost 7,000 under a roof. The building under the new stand features: conference rooms, restaurant, biological regeneration rooms, and changing rooms. As the only one in Poland, the facility satisfies the standards required by the International Association of Athletics Federations confirmed in the First Class certificate! The "Zawisza" Stadium satisfies also technical and organisational requirements of the PZPN Polish Football Association, UEFA and FIFA.
