Zbigniew ‘Zibi’ Boniek, one of the most outstanding Polish soccer players, was born 3 March 1956 in Bydgoszcz. He started his career in colours of Bydgoszcz Zawisza Club where he played for nine years. At the climax of his career he played in famous Italian clubs: Juventus and AS Roma. His achievements were appreciated by numerous soccer experts. The famous Brazilian soccer player Pele placed Boniek’s name on a list of 125 best players ever.
Bronze at Mundial World Championships held in Spain in 1982 were very successful for our team. Polish – Belgium match was one of the most interesting. Boniek’s hat trick opened the way to further games. And finally Poland’s team won a bronze medal while ‘Zibi’ was selected to the star team of the championships. Successes in Italy A series of successes in Italy namely: Serie A title in Juventus colours in 1984, The Italian Cup in 1983, The European Cup in 1985, European Super Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup both in 1984, Intercontinental Cup in 1985, brought him fame and since then Italian football funs recognise him as a legend. Return to Bydgoszcz In June 2010 Zbigniew Boniek was again engaged in Bydgoszcz Zawisza Club. He decided to support the team and became the Adviser of the Board for Sport. |
