The Bukovec Sisters, a trio of cultural activists, create art they can take to the countryside—to the place where they come from. With their cosmopolitan, feminist performances, they strive to reach every Slovenian village. To their great surprise, the countryside welcomes them with open arms and hearts full of life stories. And then strange things begin to happen. Nearby, a child finds a fragment of a woman’s hand in a pile of manure. Just like in a movie.

Reality bursts into the performance, and the Bukovec Sisters set out on a real mission—a mission against patriarchy, violence, and femicide.

They call on their allies—neighbors, relatives, students. They put on pants. They cut them open. They take up arms. They occupy the space in front of churches, schools, and fire stations. They grab shovels. They dig graves. They stand in front of houses. They raise banners. They take their positions. Flags flutter from the rooftops.

They will no longer remain silent. Neither will we. The Pile has finally spoken.
