MEXA is a collective founded in 2015 in response to rising gender-based violence in shelters for people experiencing homelessness in São Paulo. Over the years, some of its members have disappeared, others have died, and still others have stopped creating together. Drawing on personal experiences, “The Last Supper” draws on the Bible to explore the concepts of death and resurrection.

Successive courses and stories intertwine the performers’ lives with religious references: the transformation of Christ’s body and gender transition, the growing presence of evangelical churches in Brazil, the fragility of life, and the promise —similar to that made by the New Evangelicals—to bring back to life the stories of those who have passed away. By combining celebration, the passing down of memory, and solidarity, MEXA transforms the theater into a living ritual, in which the stage becomes a space for community, sharing, and remembrance.

Running time: 100 minutes, no intermission | Performance with Polish and English subtitles
