At the age of 25, Marta Markiewicz found herself at a critical juncture that forced her to pause and decide to make a change. In her 2024 book *I’m Boring Without Booze and Drugs*, she described her experience of living with addiction—when she was ruining her life while thinking she was having a great time. She then recounted her journey to sobriety.

In Mira Mańka’s adaptation, several characters appear who became addicted to substances for completely different reasons. Their stories are similar to Marta’s experience—though their paths to addiction and recovery differ, they are united by a moment of crisis and attempts to rebuild their lives on new terms. You won’t find any didacticism or moralizing in them, however. Mira Mańka uses the strategies of autofiction and stand-up comedy, which serve not only to entertain but also to make these experiences more relatable.

“I’m Boring Without Booze and Drugs” is a project focused on the recovery process and community. It creates a space for meeting, sharing experiences, and talking about sobriety as a practice of everyday life—difficult, but possible.

Duration: 100 minutes, no intermission | Screening with English subtitles
