Just a year and a half ago, Pasza—simply a teacher: nonpartisan, working in a run-of-the-mill—but always—public-sector job—went to work, and in the evenings and during vacations he gave private lessons. It was enough to get by; he didn’t care much about anything else. Last winter, things took a turn for the worse. Something changed in the air—it felt electrified—and everyone was talking only about politics and watching the news, which was simply terrifying. And now? Now Pasha has to get Little One out of boarding school. He has to go right into the heart of hell to get him.

This adaptation of Serhiy Zhadan’s acclaimed novel is a journey into the depths of the human experience in the 21st century—a story of coming of age, of taking responsibility for the vulnerable, of forming one’s own opinions, of listening, and of love. A story about longing for an ordinary life, where everything is in its place and mornings are filled with everyday household troubles. About dignity and the absence of fear. About finding oneself again.

Runtime: 110 minutes, no intermission | Screening with English subtitles
