Maria Apoleika. Dog Crackers. Nose to Nose
"Nose to Nose" is an exhibition about those who are behind the whole endeavor and, in a sense, represent the community and its needs, while respecting individuality. It is an exhibition about dogs, their needs, relationships, tastes, and adventures.
About the Author
Maria Apoleika – born in Bydgoszcz, she spent half of her life living in the Tri-City (Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia) and the other half in Łódź. She works in painting, graphic arts, small-scale sculpture, and illustration, and also publishes books. For over a decade, she has been creating Psie Sucharki (Dog Crisps)—a popular series of single-panel cartoons and comic strips detailing the daily lives of dogs and their owners. Her work is supported by Misio, her adopted silver standard poodle.
About the Exhibition
"Nos w nos" (Nose to Nose) is an exhibition centered on those who represent the canine community and its needs, while fully respecting their individuality. The showcase focuses on dogs—their relationships, personalities, tastes, and adventures. It serves as an invitation to share interconnected human-canine biographies that shape our mutual experiences.
The exhibition explores how to recognize mutual needs and extend interspecies empathy, reflecting on our shared daily history with animals. These personal experiences serve as a starting point for broader educational themes regarding animal welfare and life alongside pets. The exhibition examines this relationship through both comical and critical lenses, maintaining a profound respect for animals throughout.
