The Historic Piano Collection

Located near Bydgoszcz, Ostromecko is an incredibly charming destination. Visitors will be enchanted by its two palaces—one Baroque and the other Neoclassical—as well as a beautiful landscape park. The hilltop where the complex sits offers an expansive, scenic view over the Vistula River. The picturesque character of this palace and park ensemble is perfectly complemented by a unique tourist attraction: a collection of historic pianos.

The collection was initiated in 1978 by Andrzej Szwalbe, the long-time director of the Pomeranian Philharmonic. The gathering includes grand pianos, square pianos, and upright pianos. These instruments were manufactured in various European cities, including Bydgoszcz, with the sole exception of one square piano that was brought over from the United States.

Worth a special mention is a particularly valuable acquisition—a masterpiece by the Warsaw-based manufacturers Krall & Seidler. This instrument was presented to the composer Zygmunt Noskowski by his fellow countrymen to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his artistic career.
