Check out why it's worth visiting this city with kids and which attractions should definitely make it onto your itinerary.

The First Mission

It is worth starting your family adventure in Bydgoszcz with a visit to the Bydgoszcz Information Centre. This is where you can get maps, brochures, and information about city games and quests that turn sightseeing into a real adventure. The youngest visitors will surely love "Mr. Twardowski's Cipher" and "The Archer's Arrow", older kids can tackle "Rejewski's Code", and for the whole family, there are options like the "City on the Brda" quest and the "Bydgoszcz, the Brda River, and everything's great" game.

A City Walk

It is worth starting your walk at the Stary Rynek (Old Market Square). This is where you can work together to find the 18th meridian east running through the city and the unusual clock showing Bydgoszcz time. Check what time it actually is – it's great fun, not just for kids!

The next stop will be the Jerzy Sulima-Kamiński Old Town Bridge. This is the best place to see the city's most recognizable symbol – the "Man Crossing the River" sculpture. Suspended over the Brda River, the figure looks as if it is floating in the air. If you like this extraordinary sculpture, be sure to look for the other two: the "Basket Weaver" on Jatki Street and the "Rower" over the Młynówka. Before moving on, don't forget to take a family photo with one of the most beautiful panoramas of Bydgoszcz in the background.

As you walk down from the bridge, pay attention to the scale model showing old Bydgoszcz. It's a great opportunity to find the monuments marked on it together with your children and see what is hidden under the individual numbers.
Next, head to Jatki Street – the only street in Bydgoszcz where... it never rains. This is all thanks to the characteristic glass roof that protects pedestrians from the rain. This is the way to the next attraction.

Look up high at the top of the historic townhouse – this is where the legendary Mr. Twardowski lived. Every day at 1:13 PM and 9:13 PM (13:13 and 21:13), he appears in the window, greeting residents and tourists. According to legend, he came to Bydgoszcz with two helpers and rejuvenated the city's mayor. He traveled on a rooster, which you can also find on the Old Market Square. Just walk towards the "Children playing with a goose" fountain and look closely at its lower part.

From the Old Market Square, set off along Długa Street. It is one of the most atmospheric streets in Bydgoszcz. Here you will find the Bydgoszcz Alley of Autographs and the unique Museum of Soap and History of Dirt, where you can not only learn about the history of hygiene but also make your own scented soap.

To finish the walk, head to Mill Island (Wyspa Młyńska) – the green heart of the city. To get there, go down the characteristic "magic stairs". Once there, expansive green areas, spots for picnics and play, and the impressive Rother's Mills await you – definitely worth visiting with children.

Remember that both during the walk and the city game, you can take a break for ice cream or another snack at any time. After all, exploring the city as a family is best enjoyed unhurried. There is no shortage of places serving delicious ice cream in the center of Bydgoszcz – including Katarynka, Woda, and Sowa. Parents can relax with a cup of aromatic coffee in the meantime, and when you get hungry, you will easily find a restaurant tailored to your tastes. Both venues serving traditional Polish cuisine and flavors from all over the world await you for a family dinner. Everyone – both little and big lovers of good food – will find something to enjoy here.

Time for Museum Discoveries

After a walk around the city center, it's worth checking out one of Bydgoszcz's museums. The city is full of places that creatively combine learning with great fun, making them interesting for both children and adults..

A must-visit is the Museum of Soap and History of Dirt at 13/17 Długa Street. During your visit, you will make your own fragrant soap to take home as a souvenir, and then embark on an extraordinary journey through the history of hygiene. Adults will certainly smile when they recognize the vintage "Frania" washing machine, see old cleaning product commercials, and remember the iconic bedtime cartoon characters Jacek and Agatka. It’s a place that entertains and educates the whole family.

Your next stop could be Rother's Mills, where modern, interactive exhibitions await, such as SOWA (Discovery, Imagination, and Activity Zone), Młyn-Maszyna (Mill-Machine), and Węzły (Nodes. The story of the city on the river). It is a space where you can experiment, explore the world, and have a great time regardless of your age.

If you are still hungry for more attractions, be sure to visit the branches of the Leon Wyczółkowski District Museum. At the European Money Centre, you will see the extraordinary Bydgoszcz Treasure; in the Archaeological Collections, you will learn about the history of the region; and in the Leon Wyczółkowski House, you will discover the works of one of the greatest Polish painters. Older children will definitely enjoy Exploseum – a unique museum located on the grounds of a former World War II explosives factory. It is also worth checking out the Museum of the Bydgoszcz Canal, which tells the story of one of the most important hydrotechnical structures in Poland in an accessible way. Thanks to such a diverse offer, every day of your family stay in Bydgoszcz can bring new discoveries and plenty of unforgettable memories.

Time for Fun – Bydgoszcz Playgrounds

After sightseeing, solving puzzles, and museum adventures, it's time for some carefree fun. Bydgoszcz has several unique places where the little ones can go wild while parents take a well-deserved break.

During your walk around the city center, be sure to visit Mill Island (Wyspa Młyńska). Right here, by the Młynówka river, you will find one of the city's most popular playgrounds. Slides, climbing structures, and many other attractions await the children. A unique touch is the Magic Red Chair—an element inspired by the popular Polish children's movie, "The Magic Tree". It’s the perfect spot for a break during your sightseeing; kids can play while parents relax surrounded by greenery and beautiful waterfront scenery.

If your little ones like music and discovering new sounds, it's worth visiting the Musical Playground. It is an extraordinary space where fun meets learning – children can create sounds themselves, experiment with different instruments, and see that music can be a great adventure.

And while visiting the Museum of the Bydgoszcz Canal, try to find the unique, slightly tucked-away Bee Playground. This place not only entertains but also educates—its design refers to the world of bees and shows the youngest visitors how important these insects are in nature. Large structures with slides, swings, climbing elements, a trampoline, and attractions inspired by the bee world, such as a honeycomb-shaped sandbox or bee figurines, await the children.

Or maybe you prefer something that takes a bit longer? For a bigger family outing, Myślęcinek – the largest city park in Poland – is an excellent choice. It’s a place where you can easily spend an entire day. In addition to walks among the greenery, a zoo, an amusement park, a botanical garden, and numerous spaces for active recreation await you here.

In Bydgoszcz, you don't have to look far for a place where children can burn off some energy and parents can catch their breath. Because a successful family trip is one where everyone finds something for themselves – a bit of discovery, a bit of learning, and a lot of simple, childhood joy.

Even if the weather doesn't cooperate, a family weekend in Bydgoszcz doesn't have to slow down. The city offers many indoor attractions that will allow you to spend time in an interesting and active way. A rainy aura is also a good moment to catch a movie, go bowling, or visit one of Bydgoszcz's family-friendly cafes.

Cinemas: For a family movie screening, you can head to Multikino, Helios, or Cinema City.
Bowling: Enbo is a great spot for some friendly competition over a game of bowling.
Active Play: If the kids are craving more physical activity, it's worth visiting indoor active play centers like Park17 (on Chodkiewicza Street), which features trampolines, play zones, and sports challenges, or the Jumpin Place Trampoline Park, offering attractions for both small and larger fans of movement.
Playrooms: For the youngest ones, indoor playrooms such as Family Park, Dzień Dobry, or Figlowisko will be an excellent choice.
