Bydgoszcz – Koronowo: A Bike Route for Everyone

Route Navigation Guide

• Bicycle Path (DDR) – A dedicated lane for bicycles with a paved surface (asphalt or paving blocks).
• Shared Pedestrian and Bicycle Path (CPR) – A combined lane for pedestrians and cyclists, where pedestrians have the right of way.

General Notice: From the starting point (Old Market Square) to Focha Street (including Old Town streets, Mill Island, and Tamka Street), cycling may be difficult during peak hours due to heavy pedestrian traffic. During the summer season, expect increased pedestrian and cyclist activity within Koronowo itself and in the resort villages directly surrounding the Koronowo Reservoir. The route to Koronowo runs partly through forests and partly through open spaces where strong winds may occur.

• Start – Old Market Square to Mill Island: Cobblestone surface.
• Mill Island: Here, you enter the dedicated bicycle path that leads all the way to Koronowo. Please note that the trail is diverse, featuring sections of both shared paths (CPR), dedicated paths (DDR), and varying surfaces.
• Within Bydgoszcz limits: A dedicated bicycle path (DDR) is available along almost the entire section (with only a brief shared path (CPR) section on Grunwaldzka Street before the railway crossing near Maczka Roundabout). The surface is asphalt or paving blocks, continuing up to the intersection of Koronowska and Opławiec streets.
• Past the Koronowska / Opławiec intersection: The dedicated path (DDR) continues but shifts to a mixed surface. While some parts are asphalt or paving blocks, it is predominantly compacted gravel (shutter). Exercise caution in marked areas (see map): the trail intersects with active forest access roads. Note the map marker indicating where you must cross a busy road to change sides.
• Approaching the S5 Expressway: The bicycle path runs on the left side of the road for a short section up to the roundabout leading to the S5 expressway. There, you must cross back to the right side, ride through the roundabout over the S5, and then return to the left side past the second roundabout. The surface on this section is asphalt.
• From the S5 exit to Koronowo: A smooth, asphalt bicycle path (DDR) leads directly to Koronowo, with only brief unpaved/dirt sections just before entering the town.
• Caution in Gościeradz: You must cross to the opposite side of the road here, as the bicycle path shifts to the right side.
• Entering Koronowo (Past the Brda River Bridge): Due to the proximity of residential areas, expect pedestrians on the path. Drive with extra caution as visibility is limited in certain sections by local buildings and infrastructure. The dedicated bicycle path continues until Dworcowa Street in Koronowo.
• From Dworcowa Street to the Market Square in Koronowo: Traffic operates under general traffic regulations (shared road with motor vehicles).

• Caution: This section includes a descent with a relatively steep incline.

Course of the Return Trip (to the Old Market Square in Bydgoszcz):

The return route follows a partially different path than the outbound journey. This description only covers the sections that differ from the way to Koronowo.

• From the Market Square in Koronowo: The route starts on public roads under general traffic regulations.

• Caution: Immediately after leaving the Market Square, you will need to climb a relatively steep uphill incline.

• Entering the Bicycle Path: After riding for approximately 300 meters on public roads, you will join the dedicated bicycle path (DDR) along Paderewskiego Street. From this point on, the return journey primarily follows dedicated paths.
• The 15 km Forest and Resort Section: For the next 15 kilometers, the dedicated bicycle path runs through the villages of Koronowo, Samociążek, and Bożenkowo, as well as through the forest areas connecting them.

• Caution: Exercise extra care along this section. Due to the resort and holiday character of these villages, expect increased pedestrian and cyclist traffic on the paths during the summer season.

Key Navigational Points on the Return Route:

• Past Bożenkowo (near Tryszczyn Dolny and Janów): You must exit the dedicated bicycle path on the left side of the road and merge safely into the main traffic lane on the roadway. Proceed across the Brda River bridge, after which you can re-enter the dedicated bicycle path that resumes from Biwakowa Street.

• Caution: This specific road segment requires conquering a relatively steep uphill climb.

• Joining Route No. 238: Once you reach Road No. 238, you will re-enter the section that completely overlaps with the outbound route to Koronowo, leading you all the way back to the Old Market Square in Bydgoszcz.
