Amirtha Kidambi’s Elder Ones (US) | CONCERT | FONOMO

Date: October 16, 2026
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Venue: Municipal Cultural Center in Bydgoszcz

Amirtha Kidambi’s Elder Ones is a project that combines free jazz, improvisation, avant-garde composition, and electronic music with an uncompromising, socially engaged message. The group is led by vocalist, composer, and instrumentalist Amirtha Kidambi, who uses her voice as a full-fledged instrument.

The band’s music is based on a dialogue between Kidambi’s voice, saxophones, the rhythm section, and the distinctive sound of the Indian harmonium. Spiritual intensity meets the energy of free jazz here—the artist describes this style as “spiritual punk.” The Elder Ones’ lyrics repeatedly explore themes of power, social inequality, colonialism, and mechanisms of exclusion.

A key milestone in the band’s discography is the 2024 album *New Monuments*, inspired by the mass protests in the U.S. following the death of George Floyd and addressing themes of memory, solidarity, and social responsibility. Kidambi grew up in the tradition of Hindu bhajan songs and Bharatanatyam dance, studied classical singing, and earned a master’s degree in ethnomusicology from Columbia University. Her work combines these experiences with jazz, experimental rock, and free improvisation.
