Host: Bartłomiej Siwiec

“Life shimmers with tragic, comic, and confessional hues, and cannot be fully captured in any creative work, no matter how monumental.” An artist […] cannot limit himself to what is flawless, because here on earth we do not encounter such attitudes. Everything we do, we carry out from a human, fallible perspective. We only (or: as much as) reach the fullness of truth about ourselves, about the goals of our personal lives, and about the chances of attaining religiously understood immortality. “The language of art generally helps in this regard,” says Rev. Prof. Jan Sochoń, *What Art Has on Its Conscience* (www.jansochon.pl).

Jan Sochoń—born in 1953 in Wasilków, a Catholic priest, full professor, philosopher of culture, poet, writer, literary critic, and essayist, as well as a biographer and editor of the writings of Blessed Father Jerzy Popiełuszko. A longtime lecturer at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw. For decades, he collaborated with *Nowe Książki*, “Topos,” and Polish Radio. He is currently primarily associated with the “Political Theology” community and the “Próby” publishing house. His works have been translated into many languages. He recently published the poetry collections *Tenderness and Ashes* (2024), *Silent Lamentations* (2024), and *Bread and Wine* (2026); he edited and provided an introduction to Jacques Maritain’s essays *The Responsibility of the Artist*, translated by Agnieszka Kuryś (2025). He lives in Warsaw and, increasingly, in Wasilków.
