Screening and discussion as part of the 39th AFF-Era Filmowa: *Brother*, dir. Maciej Sobieszczański, Poland 2025, 100 min.

A moving, brutally honest, yet tender story of the struggle for dreams, family, and love. “Brother” is a tale of the difficult journey of growing up without a father and the search for a chance at personal happiness. Fourteen-year-old Dawid takes care of his younger brother and tries to live up to the expectations of his mother, who wants to break free from a toxic past and start over, without her husband, who is in prison. Though the boy has talent and strength, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for him to maintain control in his daily life, which is torn between school, home, and the streets. Things get even more complicated when Konrad enters their lives—the only adult Dawid truly trusts. But this is just the beginning of a series of turbulent events that could ultimately tear this family apart… or save it.
