Based on the exhibition “POLISH ART—Between Sight and Touch”

Co-organized by: the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Branch of the Polish Society for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Led by: psychotherapists Elżbieta Marchlewicz and Maria Szuster

We invite you to this year’s final meeting on art and psychoanalysis in the PORUSZENIA series; this time, we will gather at the exhibition “POLISH ART—Between Sight and Touch.”

The exhibition will showcase works by artists whose names have left an indelible mark on the history of 19th- and 20th-century Polish art. Among the works on display will be paintings, drawings, and prints by Jan Matejko, Stanisław Witkiewicz, Jan Styka, Teodor Axentowicz, Wacław Koniuszko, Alfons Karpiński, and Leon Wyczółkowski—who has ties to our region—as well as sculptures by Wacław Szymanowski and Stanisław Popławski. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn many interesting facts about the history of individual works of art, including those discovered during conservation analyses and research. They will learn for whom Stanisław Witkiewicz painted a battle-themed painting, why Jan Styka cut the “Panorama of Transylvania” into several dozen pieces, and even what images are hidden beneath the visible layer of paint.

The exhibition will be enhanced with elements that allow people with visual impairments to experience the artworks.

ABOUT “MOVEMENTS”:
This gathering will allow us to share with others our perceptions, interpretations, and associations regarding the works on display. We think of “MOVEMENTS” as an opportunity to come together in a shared space between the artwork and the unconscious of each of us. We are convinced that throughout our lives, we turn toward others. This is reflected in artistic creation. We believe that art reveals and creatively transforms the processes that take place within each of us—thanks to this, we can all be viewers.

The encounter between the viewer and art is always an encounter between the unconscious of the artwork and our own unconscious. In such a space, a meaning that did not exist before can emerge—EMOTION. We would like to talk with you about art as an opportunity to better understand ourselves and the world around us. We invite you to join us.

FACILITATORS:
