Jan Kochanowski Park

Picturesque winding paths, vast green spaces, a playground for children, and many species of trees and shrubs make the park one of the residents’ favorite recreational areas. Adjacent to the park is the Academy of Music, from whose windows music flows, making a stroll even more enjoyable. The most “visited” sculpture in the park is Łuczniczka, erected in 1960 in the park square across from the Polish Theater. In the 1970s, on the initiative of Andrzej Szwalbe, director of the Pomeranian Philharmonic, work began on creating what came to be known as the “music district.” The park and the area surrounding the Pomeranian Philharmonic were gradually embellished with sculptures of composers and virtuosos (including F. Chopin, I. Paderewski, S. Moniuszko, H. Wieniawski, G. Bacewicz). The park also features several natural landmarks: black poplar, heart-leaved alder, red chestnut, and English oak.

The park was revitalized (with new paths, new plantings, and a new musical playground for children) in 2015.
