The final installment in the series: a walk through Bernardinum, this time ahead of a lecture on Jerzy Rupniewski and his studio at the Municipal Library!

On the 90th anniversary of the founding of “Bernardinum,” together with the Provincial and Municipal Public Library in Bydgoszcz, we invite you to a unique walking tour following in the footsteps of these brothers of the Bernardine Order, who rendered great service to literature and librarianship.

The Bernardine Library is the oldest and most valuable surviving book collection in Bydgoszcz, with a history dating back to the late 15th century.

Since 1936, the collection has been on display in a special room styled after a Gothic monastic cell, designed by the Bydgoszcz painter Jerzy Rupniewski. The interior is adorned, among other things, with inscriptions on the walls modeled after medieval prints and colorful stained-glass windows.

During a guided tour, we will take you back in time to the era when the order was active and their famous library was founded, and then proceed to the Witold Bełza Provincial and Municipal Public Library building, where, in the halls of the Bernardinum, you’ll immerse yourselves in the atmosphere of their titanic work and encounter the most valuable volumes.

Due to the immense historical value of the collection, it is only made available to visitors during special events.
